First Test Passed (Just…)
Yesterday I was appointed Shadow Arts Minister. Today, I scraped through my first test - just. I had agreed to go on The Daily Politics, and I knew damn well they would ask me some artsy questions. So I mugged up on who the Booker Prize Winner was (I did know, but I had forgotten); and my researcher told me who was number one (the Arctic Monkeys are not on my iRiver, but I did buy the CD to see what all the fuss was about, but I have only listened to it once). Both came up, and I got them right. But I was pleased as punch to get Chris Ofili bang on on my visual arts test.
So far so good…

Congratulations. A nice posting, by the sound of it.
Be grateful you weren’t made Shadow Transport Minister, cos I’d be on your case night and day to get Grove Station re-opened!

Congratulations on the job Ed. I’m sure you’ll do well. The taxpayers need someone on their side when it comes to the arts. We’re sick of paying for the elitist garbage they put on at the Royal Opera House, the leftie tosh they put on at the National and the regional reps, and we’re sick of lottery bigwigs refusing grants to ex-forces charities. You could have some fun with this Ed. But don’t go native on us. If you grow a goatee and start wearing baggy jumpers we’ll know you’ve jumped ship.

Congratulations on your promotion. You’re a very close friend of Dave’s I understand. Must have been hard for him to give you a job! Your account reminds me of those people at school who would plead ignorance and feign any knowledge of anything before an exam, only to come top later, and to say, gosh, thank God it turned out that what little I did know beforehand came up!
