Tory Tax Cut
Wow! The new Tory regime at Hammersmith and Fulham has cut its council tax by 3 per cent. It’s been able to do so by cutting back on back office costs (eg sharing services with other boroughs) and increasing its income by selling its commercial services more effectively, as well as contracting out some services. Needless to say, the council taxpayer may not notice - free spending Ken Livingstone is poutting up his precept again by at least 5 per cent.

Thank you for this encouragement. You ain’t seen nothing yet. Our pledge is to reduce our Council Tax to Wandsworth levels over eight years.

Thanks for the plug.
We are obviously thrilled to be able to deliver on our manifesto commitment to cut taxes year on year. You are dead right that Livingstone’s hike will eat into the benefit that Hammersmith and Fulham taxpayers get from the 3% cut - but the increase in the Mayor’s precept still won’t wipe it out. Every taxpayer in the borough will get a good tax cut this year.
