Save Dumfries House
An important piece by Simon Jenkins in today’s Guardian, bringing attention to the plight of Dumfries House, due to be sold and its contents dispersed. Odd that the new SNP administration is not trying to save this important part of Scotland’s heritage.

Dear Sir,
I cannot emphasize how important it is for Dummfries house to be saved. On economic ground alone, consider why poeple come to Scotland on holiday: It is certainly not for the weather or our food, it is because of its history, and this house is part of Scotland’s history, however little it is known.
Save Dummfries house!!

Yes! can Dumfries house and contents be kept together and intact. Are you campaigning on this issue? A higher profile in (the English) Parliament might help - a little. Why did the National Trust for Scotland pull out? Why don’t the new Scottish administration or Historic Scottish show much interest or motivation? Is it too late? Can we predict some token hand-wringing afterwards?

Surely we cannot let it go. It is part of our cultural and national heritage. We must lobby interested individuals to take a stand.
