Another Government Scheme Over Budget

Ok this probably isn’t newsworthy, because it is so common under this Government.  If I had asked you twelve months ago of the Government’s new quango, the Personal Accounts Delivery Authority, would be able to run on budget, you would have said “pull the other one”.  And you’d have been right!  We learned today it is a whopping 300 per cent over Budget, with costs rising from £500 million to £2 billion.  Read it HERE. Unbelievable.  A friend of mine worked there and resigned in disgust - he said the building was full of consultants on four figure day rates who were doing bugger all - in fact some were working for other clients, they had so little to do.  The waste and mismanagement of Government never ceases to amaze and shock.

  1. Why doesn’t the government make all of their spending clear on a website where the public can see where all of our tax is being spent? What is wrong with some public accountability?

  2. Canvas, best place to find these scams, sorry, public service partnership delivery aspirations, is in Private Eye (only partly online - you’ll have to pony up to get the full printed version).

Ed, since the public don’t want to pay even more than they already do for gvt, how about making all MPs and local councillors self-employed, contracted by the Queen on an annual basis, with fully audited accounts? I’d like to see how Yvette and Ed are in such dire straits that they are forced to claim second home allowance on their joint income of £500+K. Shouldn’t someone be telling them to sell their second home if they’re that broke?

Oh, hang on, they can’t sell their homes, can they? Something to do with the state of the economy and HIPs buggering up the housing market.

  3. It looks as though the Budget has had a huge political effect. The Conservatives now have a 16% lead according to YouGov and a 13% lead according to ICM. Long may it continue.

  4. “Despite it having the gestation period of a baby elephant, very little is set to emerge.”
